One day we look in the mirror and view unwelcome features we haven’t noticed before—crow’s feet, deepening lines on our forehead and wrinkles almost everywhere— and ask “How could this have happened to me?”

This is the prime of your life too. 40 is 20; 60, 40. We start our real lives so much later than our parents. We’re living longer, healthier and more active ones, too. But to get anywhere we have to go to school for longer duration and that means we delay getting and having children later than our parents.

younger inside

Yes, we are younger inside. But by postponing key life experiences, just when you want to be you and enjoy time after juggling some of life’s greatest challenges—parenting, assisting aging parents, maintaining relationships, dealing with career pressures, financial demands—changes in your skin become the most obvious signs of aging. Fat begins to leave the face (just when you finally need the most). Loss of facial skin fat manifests as sinking, sagging and wrinkling. The eyes and cheeks appear sunken, the chin, cheekbones and neck lose their definition. The lips lose their fullness. Age spots appear. Skin loses its elasticity and wrinkles appear along with skin leathering. As you lose muscle mass and fat from the face, you lose volume so the skin starts to sag, jowls develop and the sweet angle of the neck is gone.

For women, menopause takes an enormous toll once it sets in. The face makes a quick and dramatic turn for the worse. The skin thins, lines develop and elasticity change is rapid. It’s these changes we see in the mirror that render anyone depressed and feeling helpless.

Here's what to do right away

1. Get 8 hours of sleep, all lights and media out. It is called “beauty sleep” for a reason. This is the time of night when the body secretes its anti-agers such as melatonin, human growth hormone and insulin growth factors, all of which repair and renew muscles and skin, cause production of collagen, deliver moisture and oxygen, and all of this requires a commitment to sleep. (And when it comes to the eyes, lack of sleep can also make your skin appear paler, allowing blood vessels to become more visible through the skin, creating the appearance of dark circles beneath the eyes.) Try drinking chamomile tea before bedtime or a cup of milk.

2. Eat healthier and lower your salt. Quit eating prepackaged frozen foods loaded with sodium (ditto for those high sodium canned soups). Reduce sodium intake; get a healthy dose of vitamins and minerals such as E, C, K iron and folic acid (found in green leafy vegetables, citrus fruits, nuts, berries, seafood, grains, avocado, beef, cheese and green teas). Load up on blueberries and other richly colored fruits for their skin- and capillary-supportive flavonoids to reduce wrinkling and micro bleeding (which causes those little spider veins).

3. Cleanse gently. Washing your skin is essential. Make- up, dirt and oils can cause havoc on your face if not removed Make sure to use a mild cleanser so you don’t strip your skin of moisture and always pat dry your skin with a soft towel, this leaves some moisture on your skin. Follow-up with DermaSilk 5 Minute Face Lift.

4. Use sunscreen daily. Sun damage is the prime cause of wrinkles and dark spots. Even 10 minutes of sun exposure without sunscreen daily can cause changes to the skin that lead to sun spots and wrinkles in as little as 3 months. So make sure to apply a broad spectrum sunscreen every day to your face, neck and décolleté.

5. Avoid smoking and drinking. Smoking and drinking and smoky environments can damage the collagen and elastin in your skin, leading to wrinkles and older-looking skin. Staying away from smoking and second-hand smoke will protect your skin and help your face look its best. Even one drink can cause irreversible skin damage, and people often enough underestimate true alcohol intake.

6. Exfoliate. Exfoliating removes dead skin cells that can dull skin and block moisture absorption. Moisturizers can better penetrate the skin on exfoliated skin, giving you better results. Don’t exfoliate too often, usually once a week or twice a month is good.

9. Use oxygen masks. originally only available in spas, oxygen masks are recommended by aestheticians to rid your skin of pollution, toxins and the free radicals that break down collagen and cause premature aging. Gentle bubbling lets you know that the foam mask is working to transform skin from dull and toxic to radiant, pure and clean. Clinically proven vitamin C and hyaluronic acid help smooth away the look of fine lines by amplifying collagen and retaining moisture.

10. Apply anti-aging cosmeceuticals. DermaSilk 5 Minute Face Lift immediately lifts, tightens and firms aged skin. It uses the skin’s most primary nutrients: soluble collagen with hydroxyproline known as a collagen building amino acid; algae extract known for its immediate tightening and purifying effect; and Helix aspersa secretion known for quickly rebuilding and repairing skin cells. Almost immediately, you’ll see a significant reduction in the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles and sagging skin.

1. Use a facial eye lift that renews skin topically. The skin around eyes is the thinnest on your face and has no way to hydrate itself since it lacks oil and sebaceous glands. Facial expressions put lots of stress on this delicate skin, causing it to be the first place on your face to show signs of aging. Some of the most common signs are under-eye darkness and puffiness. Dark circles appear when the blood supply underneath the skin becomes visible through the thin under eye skin. Then, there are puffy bags that make you look tired, stressed and unhappy. Dermasilk 90 Second Eye Lift uses chamomile, white willow and soya proteinto instantly nourish the delicate areas around the eyes.Within seconds, DermaSilk 90 Second Eye Lift significantly reduces the appearance of loose skin around your delicate eye area and under eye puffiness. You’ll notice a smooth, more youthful eye appearance.

12. Drink more water and herbal teas. The most important tip is to drink lots of clear fluids throughout the day. Dehydration can cause the blood vessels under the eyes to become dilated and swollen thus causing dark circles.

13. Add a pillow. Try sleeping with an extra pillow so that fluid doesn’t pool around the eye area at night, which causes bags in the morning.
