Leafy greens tainted with coliform-contaminated irrigation water. Some of the causative agents among plant-based poisonings included norovirus, which is spread by food workers. Norovirus leads to the rapid onset of nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, including muscle aches, headaches and lowgrade fever that typically lasts for one or two days.

Poultry is the second leading cause of food poisoning and can carry salmonella or campylobacter; plants sickened greater numbers of people, but more died from poultry.

Raw egg products in dressings and egg salad infected with Salmonella Enteritidis are another source of food poisoning.

And if you eat out a lot, forget it. Once in a while, perhaps within three to four hours of a meal, you will feel the stomach cramps of mild food poisoning.

Food poisoning in an otherwise healthy person is typically selflimiting. Furthermore, we showed that AgNPs disrupt biofilm formation and exhibit better antibacterial activity compared to human cationic antimicrobial peptide LL-37. In summary, our data suggests AgNPs as a promising template for the design of novel antibacterial agents.”

This organism causes severe nausea and cramping, dehydration and often leads to hospitalization. Silver nanoparticles “were most effective in killing all the bacterial strains which includes Escherichia coli DH5a, Bacillus subtilis, Micrococcus luteus, Staphylococcus aureus and multi-drug resistant clinical isolates of Shigella spp. (flexneri, boydii, sohnea) and Vibrio cholera,” says the team from the Department of Life Science and Biotechnology, Jadavpur University, West Bengal, India. “Moreover, when human cell lines MCF7 and Chang Liver were incubated in presence of these nanoparticles for 18 h with same concentrations as used for bacteria, no toxicity was observed. But significant increase in cell killing was observed… Thus, our present investigation implicates the potential therapeutic use of silver nanoparticles as antibacterial agent….”
