The journal Menopause finds that vitamin D reduces lowdensity lipoprotein (LDL), the bad cholesterol. Among 576 postmenopausal women, some received 400 units of vitamin D and 1,000 milligrams of calcium or sugar pills. Both groups were followed for three years. At the end of the study, the rise in vitamin D measure was accompanied by drops in LDLs, the cholesterol linked with heart disease.
