SHARON STONE

"It Hasn't Been Easy"

The road to an established routine is not always so straightforward. The goal is to arrive at the place where you not only accept the aging process, but find ways to reinterpret it as you get older. Actress and film producer Sharon Stone was candid in a recent interview about her struggles for self-acceptance. “It hasn’t been easy. There was a point in my forties where I went to the bathroom with a bottle of wine, locked the door and said ‘I’m not coming out until I can accept the way I look right now,’” She made a conscious decision to take control of her age. Now 56, Stone in that desperate moment a decade ago answered the question “how do I want to age?” by realizing it started with the body. “I’d like to age like a dancer,” she said. Practicing Pilates while keeping an eye on moderation is the way she found her dancer’s body. Appearing on the cover of GQ Italia this year, Sharon is living proof that the ability to reinvent is a powerful way to age into a new self.

Refrained From The Knife For Roles

Sally Field’s smile and self-effacing nature has seen her through a long and varied career spanning decades and crossing back and forth between film and television. At official events and press junkets she manages to look incredibly youthful and is a natural representation of a woman in her sixties. Fitness is key for Field, she says. “Aging successfully isn’t just about looking good; it is about having a good, solid feeling about yourself, your health and yourself as a healthy person.” The 67 year old actress, while tempted by how good some of her friends and peers who have had surgery look, has refrained from going under the knife for artistic reasons. “I would like to age into roles I want to play the way the great ones did, like Helen Hayes and Lilian Gish.” She places her beauty emphasis on health by staying on top of the osteoporosis she was diagnosed with and by maintaining an active lifestyle including hiking, biking and yoga. Having just received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Field is living proof that while a trim figure and expert make-up certainly help, it’s rather her winning smile which first captured hearts nearly 50 years ago that continues to be her biggest asset.

HILLARY CLINTON

Lets Others Do The Worrying

Sometimes embracing your own style choices is what keeps a woman glowing. With all the attention focused on whether Hillary Clinton will run again for president in 2016 when she will be 68, she has never seemed more relaxed and confident. Women who are in politics are used to having their outfits and hair choices picked over. Despite adopting a more sleek and refined style as of late, Hillary has also remained unapologetic about defining her personal style how she sees fit. She told a reporter, “I feel so relieved to be at the stage I’m at in my life right now. Because you know, if I want to wear my glasses I’m wearing my glasses. If I want to wear my hair back, I’m pulling my hair back…if others want to worry about it, let them do the worrying for a change.”

Rigorous Regimen

That type of confidence is something model, actress and artist Christie Brinkley has in spades. A long time advocate of living a healthy lifestyle, she even wrote and illustrated a book in 1983 called Christie Brinkley’s Outdoor Beauty and Fitness Book, which detailed her workout and beauty regimen. Years of rigorous exercise and a vegetarian diet keep her looking as radiant as when she first appeared as the face of Cover Girl cosmetics. She likes to keep things simple down to her skincare routine: “I cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize…I’m religious about wearing sunscreen daily…I also drink tons of water to keep my skin hydrated.” She is worth millions and owns property in the Hamptons but does her own nails. “I have no patience for salon manicures and pedicures so I do them myself.”

Keeping both the brain and body active is the primary focus for 67-year old actress and UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador Susan Sarandon. Accomplished and award-winning, Sarandon advocates authenticity, a quality that shows up in both her work and life. She enjoys fruits and vegetables in her diet as much as possible. Paying attention to the types of carbs she eats and staying away from too much red meat are key to maintaining her curvy, healthy figure. She also doesn’t smoke. “One of the most crucial things I tell young people is to not smoke. It’s bad for your health and it wreaks havoc on your skin,” she insisted to a reporter. Living in New York, she stays healthy by walking everywhere and recently discovered ping-pong. Ms Sarandon loves how it keeps both the brain and body simultaneously engaged.
